Talking more about Sew...
Oh my gosh! I am back!
Why? Because I have things to say about Barbara Emodi's new book, Sew...The Garment-Making Book of Knowledge (maybe what I need is a book club that reads sewing books!)
Barbara gives us her thoughts on what we should be sewing since we have now figured out why we should be sewing. She doesn't give us my-way-or-the-highway thoughts, but rather things to think about so we can decide for ourselves what we should be sewing.
Here is a smattering of things I thought as I read her thoughts...
and in honor of flypaper thoughts I will bullet them!
Well there you have it. Hurry up and buy this book so we can talk about it!
God-willing I will be back to talk more about Chapter Three: Finding the Right Pattern
Blessings to you~ Candis

- In the lifestyle pie, used to figure out when, where and why we are wearing our clothes, it dawned on me that she has left out a third of our week...sleeping! I spend a lot of time in bed. I think this area of my wardrobe deserves a bit more attention than I give it! Why not beautiful pajamas that fit comfortably rather than the ratty T-shirt that can't be seen in public? Like underwear and hospital trips, maybe we should consider what we will look like if there were ever a fire.
- I love her navy three-armhole dress! I have seen this pattern before but because the model on the front is in a muted pink I just couldn't imagine wearing it. Barbara's lovely navy dress is making me rethink my need for this pattern. So simple and so beautiful.
- Here, here!! for Barbara's thoughts on why classic men's styles might not always suit curvy women's bodies. Show off your body shape with your own brand of curvy classic! Curved lines on a curved body, what a simply beautiful concept.
- Barbara has a rule for sewing contentment (several actually but this is the one I butted up against): to forget stash busting and consider it an investment. I dunno. I may be too scotch for this one. Or need my space to not be too crowded. Or maybe I just can't handle the guilt of the spent money just sitting there tempting moths. So maybe not stash busting, but I am for a little bit of stash diminishing.
- Silk knit for travel wear! She is a genius! I love any excuse to buy and sew silk. And this is a pretty great one.
- Barbara's last tip about what to sew is sew a great coat. I am a coward and totally shrink at the thought of sewing a coat! But perhaps it is time to be challenged by this thought instead of repelled.
Well there you have it. Hurry up and buy this book so we can talk about it!
